About Kate: I believe great photography is as timeless and as unique as you are. It's part art and part photojournalism and I would describe my style as casual, thoughtful, warm, and elegant.
I thrive on capturing real laughs and real love.

Hitched :: Jill & Curt

Jill & Curt were married in July at the UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley in the amazing Redwood Grove. It was a beautiful ceremony, complete with their own sweet vows and readings from many of the guests. Their centerpieces were potted orchids that were all given away at the end of the night to family & special folk. The California Honeydrops played at the reception and then Curt killed it with an awesome iPod playlist- ooh, a little part of me wished I could have danced the night away with everyone! We finished the night with a super quick stop at the Ferry Building in SF for some fun night photos. Here's my favorite; Jill and Curt running after the streetcar on the Embarcadero! They were so much fun to hang out with and I'm blessed I had the opportunity to capture their celebration! Happy day, Jill & Curt!!

More Flora

Whenever I want to be inspired, I head over to Flora Grubb Gardens. It's always full of wonderful plants, ideas, and innovation. I go all the time and the grounds never cease to amaze me. Brilliant and oh, so lovely! Here are a few photos from my last visit. You can purchase this succulent bouquet from their online shop!

You Had Me at Hello

Please excuse the über-dumb title, but there aren't better words to describe my feelings. You're probably thinking that I'm going to write a post about this cherry pie. It's a logical assumption, but you're wrong. I'm writing about the magic of the 50mm lens. I borrowed my friend Maria's lens, put it on my D50, and turned to my right. The cherry pie was glowing and it was the perfect first subject. I used to think a 50mm was a pain in the you-know-what, but I didn't realize the power that IS a 1.8 aperture. This is what gives you the shallow (and beautiful) depth of field. Focus is precise and everything else in the frame is knocked out of the park! Get your own here and fall in love with photography all over again.

Mirror World

My old friend Parker (that's him over there... I took the photo & he added the carnival) used to have an amazing website for photos from the olden days, called Mirror World. They were mostly found images. I used to have them rotate on my desktop, but since joining the ranks of motherhood, I've replaced them with photos of my baby.

My collection of Parker's found photos is homeless and lonely. So I've created a gallery and added a few of my own to the pack. I'm so excited that they'll once again get to see the light of day. You'll recognize a Sally Mann, a Picasso, Stirling Moss an Abe Linc or two, but most are probably new to you. If you're like me, however, you'll feel a connection to them even if you've never seen them before. I hope to include more, and possibly convince Parker to put the site back up, so we can look at our favorite unknowns whenever we'd like.
